On the Yellow Brick Road to Hogwarts

People often wonder where they'll be in ten years.

Ten years ago I would have never even thought about writing a book, let alone an entire series. I would have never thought about writing a screenplay nor working for a production company. Yet here I am.

The path to our dreams is completely different for everyone, even if you have the same dream as another. Two people could begin at the same point and end up in different places all together. That's how life works. It throws you curve-balls. Sometimes those curve-balls are good - they lead you on to something better than you imagined. Sometimes they're set-backs, but you shouldn't look at those set-backs as a bad thing.

People often tend to look at set-backs as failure or a misstep. But it's not, set-backs happen to test you - not to defeat you. They test your patience, your determination, and your strength. Set-backs should make you work harder, not give up all together.

I'm still on the road to my dream. I haven't reached my destination yet. The path I have chosen has thrown me some curve-balls, I've hit some potholes, even broke down a few times, but I haven't given up on the prize - my goal. I don't even know what my goal entails completely, but that is what is so great about life. Your goal could be huge, but the goal life grants you could be even bigger. That's why when you do reach your goal, keep striving forward. You'll gain more than you ever imagined.

In the past two years, I have written and published two books and several screenplays. The series I'm currently writing will be an eight book series called The Archangel Series. With my first two books out and published, IMMORTAL and RESISTANCE. I'm planning on releasing my third book, FREEDOM, this upcoming Fall.

I originally intended to only write IMMORTAL as a standalone book. Then I decided on a trilogy, then I realized I could do so much more than that and planned a eight book series. I could have stopped with just one book and called it day, but I didn't. I saw a better future and went after it.

My series may not be as popular as Harry Potter yet, but I have faith in my writing and my series that one day it will become known to the world. That's a goal of mine, but not my entire goal. Becoming a best selling author is a great achievement, but I won't stop there.

After I complete this series, I have other series that I plan to write. I plan on writing for a long time. My work isn't finished at best seller or top ten book. I love to write and I will do it for as long as I am able. My goal is simply just to write and be successful in it. To not have to work a 9-5 job ever again - that's definitely one of my goals. A goal that I hope to achieve soon.

While I was writing my first book, IMMORTAL, I decided to give screenplays a go. I ended up writing a romantic comedy called ONLY 14 DAYS. For a first screenplay by a new screenwriter, it wasn't bad. I went on to write several more: SMOKED, THE SECRETS OF BLAIR MANOR, and FALLING FOR FLAWS. While writing these screenplays, I met a great friend, who is now my co-writer. We wrote FALLING FOR FLAWS together as well as a new script that came from her imagination called LOVELESS and she also helped me polish up ONLY 14 DAYS.

If I hadn't considered attempting to write screenplays, I wouldn't be where I am now. Not only did a gain a great friend and co-writer, but I also gained a job at a production company writing scripts. If I only stuck with writing books, it would have taken me much longer to get where I am now. Little things make a huge impact on your life. I never imagined writing a screenplay would change my entire future.

FALLING FOR FLAWS is currently in pre-production and is set to film this year. If I had not taken the effort to extend my range, I would probably be working some job that I hated and would have had little time to write my books. This is how my goal became larger as time went on. I have achieved several of my goals in completing IMMORTAL and RESISTANCE as well as several screenplays, but my ultimate goal has not yet been reached.

I'm excited to see what the future holds and you should be too. The future is a mystery that only you can solve. So what will you do? Will you settle with one goal or strive after many? The choice will ultimately decide your future.

Keep your head high and your eyes on the prize.

God bless,

~ Tim

Big Changes Coming!

"Cha-cha-cha-cha-changes!" - David Bowie That's right, change is coming.  As most of you already know, my book series: The Archangel Series written by Tim Routledge is a self-published series. However, after October those books will be unpublished. I will then rename the series to The Archangel Chronicles by Timothy Lawrence and seek out an agent to help land a publisher.  It'll still be a eight book series, the stress of doing everything myself has been, well, stressful. Too much weight on my shoulders alone is something I can't handle anymore. So with the help of an agent and publisher, I hope to be able to reach a bigger audience and sell more copies of my books.  Thank you for reading and supporting me on my journey!  ~ Tim

Alternative Pen Names

Pen names and initials So I don't know if you've noticed or not, but a lot of authors use pen names or just have cool initials in their names. My name: Tim Routledge can be hard to pronounce. So I came up with some alternative names I could use. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. T.L. Routledge (First and second initial) Timothy Lawrence (Middle name for a last name) Timothy L. Routledge (Middle initial) Tim Lawrence (Shortened with middle name) Tim L. Routledge (Shortened with middle initial) Let me know which is your favorite in the comments! God bless, ~ Tim

Advice for First Time Authors

It's not easy. Get that thought of your head. Writing a book has several steps, several many forget about. These are things that I wish someone would have told me before going in head first. 1 - The Idea: So you have a great idea for a book? Write it down right away. Often times the best ideas are the ones we forget. So write it down somewhere, anywhere. On a gum wrapper, on your hand, a napkin, in your cell phone. Just write it down!  2 - Organizing: How long will the book be? What characters will you have in the book? It's smarter to do this before you start writing. I typically write all my notes before even starting the book. It's much more organized and everything is set up while you write the book.  3 - Starting: The first sentence is literally the hardest thing you'll ever write. From there on, it gets easier - trust me. But that first line, that's all you. Just remember, everyone struggles with the beginning.  4 - Writing: I don't know ...
